Conclusions reached by participants of GMEISS 2025 following discussions, keynote addresses, technical sessions, and interdisciplinary panels.
While AI has become a powerful catalyst for innovation, participants agreed that future societal challenges cannot be addressed through artificial intelligence in isolation. Sustainable solutions require the integration of human expertise, organizational knowledge, governance, and collaborative decision-making.
Research implication: Future research should move beyond AI-enabled solutions toward integrated intelligence ecosystems.
Circular economy initiatives are most effective when supported by continuous learning, data sharing, knowledge exchange, and adaptive decision-making. Participants recognized that sustainability depends not only on circular resources but also on circular knowledge.
Research implication: Research should investigate mechanisms that enable continuous knowledge creation, learning, and adaptation across organizations and societies.
Numerous presentations emphasized that technological advancement without ethical governance risks widening inequalities, increasing environmental impacts, and reducing public trust. Responsible innovation should become a fundamental principle guiding future research.
Research implication: Greater attention should be devoted to governance, ethics, transparency, explainability, and societal impact.
Climate change, digital transformation, healthcare, smart infrastructure, cybersecurity, and resilient economies cannot be solved within disciplinary boundaries. Participants called for stronger collaboration between engineering, management, computing, business, health sciences, education, environmental sciences, and public policy.
Research implication: Future conferences should strengthen interdisciplinary integration and cross-sector collaboration.
While sustainability remains essential, societies must also become adaptive and resilient in responding to technological disruption, environmental uncertainty, and economic volatility. Future research should investigate how intelligent systems enable resilience rather than merely efficiency.
Building upon these conclusions, the GMEISS Scientific Committee identified an emerging research direction that extends beyond AI-powered circular solutions: the continuous circulation of intelligence — integrating human intelligence, artificial intelligence, organizational learning, research, innovation, governance, and digital technologies into adaptive systems capable of responding to evolving global challenges.
The continuous creation, integration, sharing, application, and regeneration of knowledge across people, technologies, organizations, and ecosystems to enable adaptive, resilient, and sustainable futures.
Accordingly, the GMEISS Scientific Committee announces that the 2027 conference will advance this research agenda under the theme:
GMEISS 2027 — Circular Intelligence for Adaptive and Resilient Futures. Shaping Tomorrow Through Research and Responsible Innovation. This theme shifts the focus from developing AI-powered solutions to understanding how research, knowledge, intelligent technologies, and responsible innovation can collectively create adaptive, resilient, and sustainable societies.
